It’s always a happy time, somewhere on the Island. With two monsoons bringing rain to the Island, it is not difficult to find a place where the sun is shining while it’s raining in some parts of Sri Lanka. The tiny pearl of the Indian Ocean is really blessed with a wonderful weather pattern. The Southwest monsoon descends upon Sri Lanka from April to September bringing rain to the West, South West, and Hill Country; April to June being the wettest season. The North East monsoon visits the East coast of Sri Lanka from November to March; November to December being the wettest period. There’s also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November characterized by sudden rainfalls and thunderstorms.
Therefore, the best time to visit Sri Lanka East Coast is from April to September; the best season to visit Sri Lanka West Coast, South Coast, and the Hill Country is from December to March.
Sri Lanka is positioned close to the equator and enjoys a fairly constant temperature year-round. While the coastal and lowland areas delight in a fairly warm, sunny temperature the Hill Country delights in pleasantly mild temperature. Some parts of the Hill Country feature quite chilly weather too.

From May to October, the seas of Arugam Bay, Trincomalee, Nilaveli, Passikuda, and Batticaloa are calm; the weather is characterized by sunny days and clear skies.
The West and South Coasts
From November to April, the coastal towns of Bentota, Kalpitiya, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, and Mirissa offer ideal conditions for watersports.
April brings spring to Nuwara Eliya. The countryside town goes alive with flower shows, carnivals, tournaments, and shows. Nuwara Eliya is in full bloom during April.
The fine weather lures hundreds of pilgrims to Adam’s Peak during December to April. The warm and rainless days makes it safe and easy for the climbers.
Kalpitiya : November to April
Trincomalee : May to October
From May to October Kalpitiya offers ideal conditions for kitesurfing; winds are strong and the South West monsoon is in.
From April to November, the water levels of Kelani River at their best. Hence, ideally it’s the best time to white water raft in Kitulgala.
Although Sri Lanka has its own rainy and cloudy seasons, being an Island most of the time it is clad in brilliant weather with pools of sunshine and warm days.
